A Hyrax expansion appliance is an orthodontic device that widens the upper jaw. It's an all-metal device that's laser-welded to four bands. The appliance attaches to several teeth on each side of the back of the mouth.

The jaw is gradually moved to a wider position.
The device attaches to several teeth on each side of the back of the mouth.
The expansion screw can be unscrewed with a special long key.
Ҩ When to use it ?
The ideal time to begin treatment is around age 7-10.
The risk of expansion failure increases after the age of 15.
Ҩ What are the potential issues ?
The appliance can interfere with the proper tongue to palate contact needed for normal speech sound production.
